The department of English organised "Meet the Poet" programme on 24th August 2017, in the college auditorium. The tibetan refugee poet Tenzin Tsundue was the chief guest for the day. Tsundue shared his experiences as apoet and refugee in India. He also read some of his poems and explained the occasions behind the writing of those poems. The programme was open to all the students. The faculty members were also present for the same.

The inaugural ceremony of the English Literary Association for the year 2016-17was held on 17th August 2017 in the college auditorium, at 10.30during the Association hour. Sonia, final year degree student, gave an introduction to the event. After the prayer Viha Rosin of third year English, formally introduced and welcomed the chief guest of the day Dr. Betsy Paul C, Associate Professor of the Department of English St. Aloysius College and alumnae of our institution. Dr .Betsy Paul C. officially inaugurated the activities of the Literary Association by lighting the lamp. After the ceremony, the resource person gave a lecture on the topic what literature taught her. By quoting ample examples from literary texts and famous authors Ma’am spoke about the art of living life to the fullest. She explained the ideas behind being personal and political and new realms of aesthetics. At the end of the lecture Ma’am encouraged the students to write; to reflect upon their own identities; to express their own selves. The lecture was followed by an interactive session with the chief guest. Ann Mary Joju, 2nd year degree student, entertained the gathering with a melodious song. Mirfa Sikendar, final year Functional English student, delivered the vote of thanks. The function came to an end by 11:30 AM.

The English Department of Vimala College organized the Freshers Day for the year 2017-2018 on 10 August 2017 in the college auditorium .The programme was hosted by the second year students of the department .The faculty and the UG and PG students of the department were present.
The event began with a prayer followed by a welcome speech by Glincy Piyus of second year English literature. The programme moved to a full swing with the invigorating dance performances by the second year students. Games like Dubsmash and Freeze dance were also included for the freshers to display their talents. The winners were given prizes. The skit performed by the post graduate students was highlight of the show.
A medley dance performance towards the end set the stage on fire. The vote of thanks was proposed by Aksa. K. Babu of second year Functional English ending the colourful event.

The first meeting of the Writer’s Forum was conducted on 3rd August 2017 during the Association hour. Nehna Kamarudeen, final year P.G student, introduced the activities of the forum for the students. The student co-coordinators initiated the activity session by providing transcribed versions of two words: eulogize and calumniate. They encouraged the students to read it and later they explained both words and their meaning. Students were entrusted with the task of eulogizing and calumniating themselves. After the allotted time 12 students from the gathering presented what they have written. It was an opportunity for students to ponder upon their own selves; their positives and negatives and to reflect it through words. The meeting came to an end by 11:30 AM. All the U.G and P.G students of both English Literature and Functional English attended the meeting.

The release of Poemlets 15: The 2015 Collection published by Sound Vision Media, New Jersey and marketed by Amazon under the auspices of the dept. of English, Vimala college was held on 25-01-2016.The first copy of the book was handed over to Dr. Kavita Balakrishnan, Poet, Artist and faculty of Art History at Govt. Fine Arts, Thrissur by Joe Poonnolly, Sound Vision Media, NJ. The contributors to the book, chiefly the dept.faculty, and others attended the fuction.
