Post Graduate and Research Department of Physics


       Established in 1967,the department of Physics has a size history of more than 40 years. The department has the credit of being the first post graduate Science Department in the college.Presently there are nine teaching staff and four  nonteaching staff in the department. Of the nine  teaching staff,  four hold Ph.D. degree in Physics. During an academic year, it caters to the academic needs of more than 60 students in Physics,The department has very well equipped laboratories for conducting all its programs. The department has been approved as a Research Centre by the Calicut University in October 2013 and is the   first  Science Department of the college to recieve this honour.

  • B Sc Physics

     Students graduating with B.S. in Physics should be able to:

    • Recognize how observation, experiment and theory work together to continue to expand the frontiers of knowledge of the physical universe.  
    • Use basic laboratory data analysis techniques, including distinguishing statistical and systematic errors, propagating errors, and representing data graphically
    • Convert a physical situation to a mathematical formulation, and then analyze it quantitatively.
      • Exercise the use of physical intuition and ability to guess an approximate or conceptual answer to a physics problem
      • Develop mature intuitions regarding the motions and interactions of physical bodies, including macroscopic objects, particles, and fields
      • Communicate verbally, graphically, and/or in writing the results of theoretical calculations and laboratory experiments in a clear and concise manner
    • Through the selection of electives, students will understand how those principles relate to forefront areas of research
    • Access information on a topic from a variety of sources, and be able to learn new things on one’s own

    MSc Physics

     Students graduating with M.S. in Physics should be able to:

    • Apply abstract concepts to real-world situations;
    • Apply the basic laws of physics in the areas of advanced studies,  accurately describe and predict the outcome of experiments and other observed phenomena
    • Use Mathematical approaches and  basic computational techniques for modeling physical systems including those that do not have analytical answers
    • Acquire the skill to apply simple fundamental laws to more complicated situations;
    • Develop skills in research, analysis and interpretation of  complex information thereby  familiarising them to a technology-rich, interactive environment.
    • Analyze physical systems and  identify the essential aspects of a problem, formulate a strategy for solution, make appropriate approximations, evaluate the correctness of their solution, and communicate the results clearly

    • To interpret data so as to disseminate acquired knowledge and skills for betterment of the society
