The Department of Social Work (Aided) was established in the year 1995-96 under the leadership of Dr Sr Chrisologa, Principal and Dr Lizy James, HOD. The Department was inaugurated by Dr Kiran Bedi IPS. The department offers two year Post Graduate programme in Social Work with two specializations viz, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Rural and Urban Community Development.
The Department also offers a Certificate Course in Peer counselling for the UG students of Vimala College. The Continuing Professional Development Programme for trained Social Workers initiated by the Department provides a venue for the professionals to enhance knowledge, expertise and competence. The Department offered PG Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling under UGC’s Innovative Programmes from 2005 to 2010.
The Extension and Community Outreach programmes initiated and implemented by the Department provide exceptional opportunities to the faculty and students for their professional growth and community empowerment.
We envision a cadre of empowered women professionals with personal integrity, a sense of self worth and an unshakable belief in the dignity and worth of human beings irrespective of the man made boundaries.

Admission to Social Work Programme: Based on the Common Entrance Test, Group discussion and Personal interview conducted by the university of Calicut. Basic Qualification–50% aggregate marks for U.G.
The department periodically updates social work curriculum in order to keep pace with the changing trends and local and global demands. The course design has a balanced blend of class room teaching, field practicum and research. The Department advocates strong rights based and strengths based approach in the curriculum.
