Mehfil-e-Qawwali: A Celebration of India's Linguistic & Musical Heritage
The Department of English at Vimala College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with the UGC Centre for Women's Studies, Saarang Music Club, Department of Hindi, and the English Alumnae Association, is organizing a "Mehfil-e-Qawalli." This event, with the theme "The Lyric Loom," is a celebration of India's linguistic and musical heritage. The event will be held on August 22, 2025, at 10:30 am in the Auditorium.
This event is more than a performance; it is a dialogue where words and music unite to tell timeless stories. Through the poetry of qawwali, which is woven in languages like Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, and Persian, the event will journey through themes of love, devotion, and spiritual ecstasy. The setting will recreate a traditional "mehfil" atmosphere, with renowned vocalists, tabalists, and musicians at the heart of the auditorium, surrounded by the audience in a circle of shared experience. The music carries the centuries-old tradition of Sufi thought and the living legacy of India's diverse voices
