NATIONAL STATISTICS DAY CELEBRATION , 29 TH JUNE 2022
The Department of Statistics celebrated the National Statistical Day, as a commemoration of the Birth Anniversary of the Father of Indian Statistics, Prof. P C Mahalanobis on 29th June 2022, Wednesday. The day celebration was inaugurated by Dr. Davis Antony, Rtd Head of the Department and Assistant Prof. Department of Statistics Christ College , Irinjalakuda. A talk on scope and significance of the subject “Statistics” was delivered by Dr Davis Antony. Documentary on the Indian Statistician, P C Mahalanobis were presented by the students. Cultural activities are also conducted for the day.
1) NATIONAL STATISTICS DAY CELEBRATION
The Department of Statistics celebrated 15th National Statistics Day on 29th June 2021, as a commemoration of the Birth Anniversary of Prof. P C Mahalanobis, The Father of Indian Statistics, on 29th June 2021, Tuesday. E-Poster making competition on “Role of Statistics in Building back better : A sustainable, resilient life after COVID-19” was conducted for UG, PG students and research scholars. Documentary on “Applications of Statistics In Day-To-Day Life” were also presented in the memory of the outstanding contributions made by The Father of Indian Statistics.
2) A WEBINAR ON “MENTAL HEALTH OF YOUNG WOMAN”:
The Department of Statistics in association with Women Development Cell, organized a webinar on the topic "Mental Health of Young Women" with the objective to create an awareness about the importance of mental health in young women. The resource person for the webinar was NESY T. R, Consultant Psychologist, General Hospital, Ernakulam. The webinar was attended by around 75 participants.
Based on the premise that health is a combination of both physical and mental health, NESY T. R, in her presentation highlighted the five problems related with mental health, such as:(i) Psychological disorders (ii)Sleep (iii)Appetite and food habit (iv)Exercise (v)Live with covid. She gave an awareness about how to overcome our mental problems with effective remedies such as :(1) Open communication (2) supporting approach (3) avoid toxic relationships (4) finding interesting areas (5) avoid blaming self and others (6) avoid social stigma (7)seeking professional help.
3) TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION 2021
On 5th September 2021, the Department of Statistics of Vimala College, Thrissur, conducted the teachers' day celebration 'Sanare,' with great enthusiasm. The event saw several thoughtful and creative dedications to teachers. Two intercollegiate competitions were also held as a part of the teachers' day celebration. Digital card making and essay writing competitions were held which received a great response.

4) A WEBINAR ON “INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP”:
A webinar on the topic ‘INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP’ was organized by the department of statistics, Vimala college (Autonomous), Thrissur in association with institution’s innovation council on 12th November 2021 between 10.30 AM to 11.30 AM, through Google meet platform. The lecture in this webinar was given by Shibu Jalal, CEO of Trivandrum Bright Academy.

4. DBT Sponsored National Webinar Series on“"Introduction to Statistical Science and its Applications" from 29th to 31st December 2020
The three day long national webinar series on ‘Introduction to statistical science and its applications’ organized by Department of Statistics, Vimala College (Autonomous), Thrissur was scheduled on 29th, 30th and 31st of December 2020.Resource Persons: DAY 1:Dr. E V Gijo, Professor, SQC &OR Division, ISI Bangalore. DAY 2:Dr.K. Jayakumar, Professor and Head, Department of Statistics, University of Calicut.DAY 3:Dr. Sebastian George, Head of the Department of Statistical Sciences Kannur University, Kannur.
5. DBT Sponsored National Webinar on “INTRODUCTION TO SPSS”
The webinar on the topic “Introduction to SPSS” was conducted by the Department of Statistics, Vimala College (Autonomous), funded by the Department of Biostatistics, Government of India as a part of DBT-STAR college scheme. The webinar was conducted on 10th March 2021. Dr. Ravishankar N, Assistant Professor, Department of Biostatistics,Vallabhaipatel Chest Institute, University Of Delhi was the resource person of the day.
The Department had celebrated National Statistics Day on July 4th, 2019. Dr. Gleeja V.L., Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Thrissur, delivered a talk on the topic “Scope of Statistics in Recent Scenario”. The students of the Department also engaged sections by introducing the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the Government of India in relation to the Statistics Day Celebration.
2. TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION 2019
The Department of Statistics celebrated the ‘Teachers’ Day’. The program was held at the college auditorium on 5th September 2019. It started at 10.30 am with a prayer. A bouquet was presented to the teachers as a small gift and a video was played which showed the role of a teacher in shaping students’ minds and the photographs of all the faculties of each department were displayed on the screen. Ms. Swarna from the Department of Mathematics spoke a few words about her experience as a teacher for the past many years which was indeed a heart touching speech. The dance performance of second-year students also added to the color of the program. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Akshaya, a student of first year UG.
3.STATISTICS ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION
The Association day of the Department of Statistics was celebrated on 29th November 2019, at the Silver Jubilee seminar hall. The program was conducted by the teachers and students of the department from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. The ceremony commenced with a prayer. The Head of the department Dr. Divya P.R. delivered the welcome speech. Mr. Shojan A.P, Deputy Director of the Department of Economics and Statistics, Thrissur graced the occasion as the chief guest and presented a seminar on the topic “Census-2021”. Dr. Jerin Paul offered the words of gratitude to the chief guest and the gathering.
4. ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON SPSS
Department of Statistics organized a one day Workshop on SPSS for Sixth semester BSc Statistics students on 6th November 2019. The resource person was Dr. Gleeja V.L, Assistant professor and Head, College of Veterinary and animal science, Mannuthy. The class was begun with the welcome address of Dr. Divya P R. In the morning session, Dr. Gleeja V L, gave an overlook on SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) software and took a class on descriptive statistics, probability distributions, representation of data and importance of studying SPSS. Ms. Mariya Jeeja delivered the vote of thanks.
5. Workshop on Research Methodology: Basics of Statistical Data Analysis Using IBM SPSS
Department of statistics, Vimala College, Thrissur has conducted a one-day “Workshop on research Methodology Basics of Statistical Data Analysis Using IBM SPSS on 10th January 2020. Dr. Jerin Paul and Ms.Maria Jeeja were the resource persons.
6. FOOD FEST FOR FUND RAISING
On 8th November 2019, a food fest was conducted by the second year UG B.Sc statistics students at Leisure tower. Various food items were sold at the stall. The students conducted a food fest with the purpose of collecting funds for the statistical fest. The stall was a success and students could contribute a fine amount of their profit to the statistical fest fund.
7. FOOD FEST PART OF SOCIAL SERVICE DAY
As part of the social service day, the department of statistics set a food stall in Vimala College on Leisure tower on 28th November 2019. The students sold various food items in the stalls. The stall was a success and the department could contribute their profit to the social service fund.
8. AWARENESS PROGRAM ON JAL SAKTI
Department of statistics conducted an awareness program on Jal Sakti at 10.30 am on 27th November 2019. Dr Divya P R, Dr Anamiya Baby, and Student coordinators Mugdha H, Anusree K delivered a talk on different aspects and importance of conservation of water. Thirty-two students of VIth Semester BSc Statistics had participated in the program.
9. Talk on CA and CMA courses
The Department of Statistics of Vimala College along with the CGPT cell of Vimala College conducted a student development program on 13th December 2019 in the Department Lab from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. The speaker of the program was Dr. K T Markose, Rtd. HOD of the Department of Commerce, Vimala College who is at present working as the Principal of Vimala Study Center, Cheroor, Thrissur.
10. Fresher’s day
Fresher’s day program started at 10.30 am on July 19th in the silver jubilee seminar hall. The program started with a prayer, various programme and games were conducted by second and third-year students.
11. Pleasure trip
VI th Sem B.Sc.Statistics students went for a pleasure trip to Pondicherry And Mahabalipuram 21st November 2019.
12. STRATUM 2020: Inter-Collegiate Seminar on Statistical Challenges in Data Analytics
The department of statistics organized an intercollegiate seminar on the topic "Statistical challenges in data analytics" on 24 January 2020 at the Silver Jubilee Seminar hall from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This seminar aimed to sensitize the students about the scope of data analytics and emerging field in the current scenario. The resource person for the day was Dr. Bindu Krishnan working as the Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and data science at Jain University, Kochi.

On 29th June, the department of statistics celebrated National statistics day- “official statistics”. The chief guest of the day was Mary Andrews. She is the owner and managing partner of ‘Carame Products & Carame Baking School’ at Kochi. Mrs. Mary Andrewsdelivered a session on ‘Statistics -scope and opportunities’.
2. FRESHER’S DAY - NOVATO FIESTA 2K18
Fresher’s day of Statistics Department was conducted on 6 July 2018 as “NOVATO FIESTA 2K18” at 10.30 am in the Silver Jubilee Seminar Hall, Vimala college. The freshers were welcomed.
3. TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION 2018
The Department of Statistics celebrated the ‘Teachers’ Day’ which was named as ‘AACHARYA 2K18’ on 5th September 2018. It was held at the college auditorium from 10:30 am. All the teachers of the college were the guests of the day. Dr. Sr. Mable delivered a speech on the true meaning of ‘Guru’ and quoted about Malala Yusafsai. Later, one of the vice-principals’, Dr. O.J. Joicy, spoke about how she became a teacher and threw a spark on each student of dreaming to be a teacher.
4. STATISTICS ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION
Prof. Viswas V. Nath hod, dep.of statistics, Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur inaugurated the activities of the ‘statistics association 2018-19’ on 14th August 2018 at lisseux seminar hall and delivered a session on ‘Application of Statistics in real life’.

Ajay H Das(Thrissur Center head ) and Akhil M Murali(Assistant Manager) from Networkz Systems delivered a talk on‘INTRODUCTION TO PYTHON’ on 6th December 2018 at lisseux seminar hall. (Participants - B.Sc. Statistics students).
7. WORKSHOP ON SPSS
As the part of Dept association activities, the dept arranged a workshop on the statistical software, SPSS for the V semester students of the department on 26/07/2018. Ms. Mariya Jeeja, Faculty, PG Diploma in Data Science was the resource person.

The Dept. of Statistics, organized a seminar for the BSc Statistics students on 28th January 2019 on the topic “Statistical Analysis : A beginning”. The resource person was Mr. Rasin R.S, Assistant professor, Dept. of Statistics,St. Thomas College, Thrissur.
We envision the total transformation of the young women for their enrichment and of the society at large and the nation as a whole.
