Vimala College, Thrissur

The following initiatives have been taken by Chemistry Department, Vimala College for enhancing the Socio-Economic Commitments to the Society.

A talk on "Solid Waste Management Techniques" was conducted in the chemistry dept. on 8th February 2017. Speaker: Mr. Jose Joseph, Hi tech Biofertilisers, Edappilly and E AIbrahim, State Faculty, Suchitwa Mission.
As an extension activity, the students were instructed to divide into groups and make solid waste management awareness classes on nearby schools. Classes were conducted in NSUP School, Cheroor, GUPS Ramavarmapuram and GUPS Parlikad, GLPS Pallam and St. George HSS Puttekkara.

'Vaikhari' (an initiative to mentor backward students of NSUP School Cheroor)

We Organize awareness programs on waste management and increase the consciousness of students in protecting environment.
Equip them to advance and apply best practices in ecological waste management including material substitution, reuse, repair, recycling and composting.
Render services and financial support to financially backward students.
Involve students in extra-curricular activities to develop co-curricular skills and help them to pursue interests outside the standardized academic context.
Conducting onam celebrations and ensure the participation of students in various games, music, dance programs etc. Distribution of onam kit as part of the celebration.
Mentoring of students and counseling.

Many non-commercial products such as detergents, handwash, dishwash, toilet-cleaner, floor-cleaner.
Department of Chemistry prepared and supplied Hand sanitizers ‘ C Glow’ during the period of Covid- 19 virus pandemic. Prepared samples met the standards of WHO and distribution among the staff and students were carried out. The inauguration of the initiative was done by Dr. Theresa C J by handing over the sample bottle to Dr. Sr. Beena Jose, Principal, Vimala College.
