HISTORY

Our Department of Commerce has been a beacon of excellence at Vimala College since 1975. Founded under the visionary leadership of Prof. N. Mohanachandran, our department has grown into a vibrant community of scholars, mentors, and innovators. We take pride in our journey, from introducing the (link unavailable) course in 1980 to launching the (link unavailable) Self-Financing course in 2012. Our upgrade to a Research Centre in 2013 was a testament to our commitment to academic rigour and innovation. Our faculty is our strength - a diverse team of Seven Assistant Professors and Five on contract, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of commerce leaders. With over 380 students and eight part-time research scholars, our department is a hub of creative energy and intellectual curiosity. We celebrate our students' successes, from academic achievements to artistic and sporting triumphs. Our alumni network boasts over 2700 undergraduate and 700 postgraduate graduates, many of whom have become leaders in their fields. There were 9 first-rank ranks, 7-second rank holders, and 8 third-rank holders in Pre-Degree. 15 first-rank holders, 9-second rank holders, and 10 third-rank holders in B. Com and 7 first-rank holders, 8-second rank holders, and 6 third-rank holders in M.Com. The Department Celebrated its Ruby Jubilee in 2015. The Department is now in its Golden Jubilee in 2025. According to the latest India Today Ranking Commerce Department Secured 40^th Position.
