HISTORY

            The department was started in 1968 under the leadership of Smt. Eliyamma George.The deparment offers B.S.c Family and Community Science, M.S.c Nutrition and Dietetics, M.Sc Textiles and Costumes Science, B.Sc Textiles and Fashion Technology, PG.Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics and career oriented Add-on courses. PG.Diploma course was introduced in the year of 1997 and M.S.c in Nutrition and Dietetics began in 2004 .M.Sc Textiles and Costumes Science course was introduced in the year of 2014 and B.Sc Textiles and Fashion Technology course was introduced in the year of 2015 and BVoc Food Processing was introduced in the year of 2018. B The department owns the prestige of securing university rank consistently from the time of it's inception. The department is Packed by a competent team of faculty members who are research guides, actively involved in board of studies and academic council. Students are constantly inspired and intellectually stimulated by researchers and academicians who are pushing the boundaries of knowledge.
                 The father of our nation,Gandhiji cherished the objective that, education must meet the demands of modern life. With this view today Home Science has emerged as a unique academic subject. Home Science is a subject with multidimensional avenues. Hence it may be a discipline, which can bridge the gap between science and it's application for the betterment of family living. But now, the subject has moved out of the homes to reach community and the nation. it integrates the application of knowledge synthesis from different sciences and humanities to improve the human environment, family nutrition, management of resources, child development and consumer competence. Thus it is the science, which makes women to live in a standard way in the community as a Dietitian, Nutritionist, Teachers, Researchers, Food analyst, Quality controllers etc.
