Research Vision and Strategy - Vimala Physics Research Centre
Scientific research relies on the application of the scientific method, a harnessing of curiosity. This research provides scientific information and theories for the explanation of the nature and the properties of the world. It makes practical applications possible. The contribution of physics to all aspects of life, material and non-material, will be essential for the foreseeable future. Physics generates fundamental knowledge needed for the future technological advances that will continue to drive the economic engines of the world. Research in Physics contributes to the technological infrastructure and provides trained personnel needed to take advantage of scientific advances and discoveries.
The main objectives of research include:
- To encourage research in basic physics (both theory and experimental) and applied areas of physics.
- To promote interdisciplinary research among different branches of science.
- To enhance the research capabilities of the department by engaging faculty in research that integrates the education of students.
- To support socially relevant and need-based research coupled with human values.
- To extend research and educational collaborations with industry, minority serving collegesand university, other universities and institutions of higher learning.
Research in Department
The department was recognised as a research centre under Calicut University in September 2013. There are four research guides under Calicut University in the department. The department is the first science department in the college to receive this honour. Being a department supplemented by essential research expertise (Faculties -Seven PhD holders, Two pursuing PhD) we take initiatives for research activities with all the available facilities in the department and college. All the UG and PG projects are carried out under the supervision of our faculties and the projects are always research oriented. Interdepartmental, inter-collegiate and university collaborations are encouraged and utilized for better results. Some of these works are presented at national conferences and recognized as the best.
The Department of Physics is financially supported by various central government Research grants
