VIMALA ENERGY MANAGEMENT CENTRE - VEMC
SAVE ENERGY FOR THE POSTERITY
Vimala Energy Management Centre - VEMC is dedicated to the energy conservation initiatives of Vimala College (Autonomous), Thrissur. The college has had a functional MoU with Athul Energy Systems Pvt. Ltd., Thrissur since 2019. Vimala College has installed a solar power plant of 100 KVA with wheeling to the grid facility. The energy conservation initiatives of the college spearheaded by the Department of Physics of the college also include a certificate course in Energy auditing offered to students pursuing B.Sc Physics (2019 onwards). The Department of Physics also offers open course in 'Non conventional Energy Sources'. Vimala Energy Management Centre - VEMC aims to equip Students as Energy warriors who are committed to the cause of energy conservation and are ambassadors to spread this message to the public.

Outline of MEGA PROJECT initiated by VEMC
PHASE I
Selecting 50 students (Preferably the existing solar energy ambassadors) from the Department of Physics and conduct energy audit in their houses. Give them training for energy saving methods and account the amount of energy expenditure based on their current month electricity bill. This will be compared with that of the average of previous one year and tabulate the energy saving per month and per year. From the experience of this group we will fix the strategies of energy saving methods.
Expected Time Frame- 6 Months
PHASE II
Extending the project to all the staff and students of the college.
Total number of participants- 3500
Expected Time Frame- One Year
PHASE III
Depending on the success of the Phase I and Phase II, one ward of any of the UBA adopted panchayaths is selected and the same procedure is done there.
Approximate Number of Participants- 1200 to 1500 famiies
Expected time Frame- One and Half Year
PHASE IV
With the help of Kerala State Electricity Board, Government of Kerala, Different Panchayaths explore the possibility of extending the project to all the five UBA adopted panchayaths.
Approximate Number of Participants – 7000 families
Expected Time Frame- two years
Outcome
Based on the results of the project prepare a protocol for the energy utilization strategies for the entire State.
