The inauguration of the Physics association was held on 24 November 2021. Prof. Inasu C A, former HoD of the department of Physics, St. Thomas College, Thrissur was the chief guest.
The inauguration of Physics Association of the year 2020-21 was arranged on 16/12/2020. Freshers day was also arranged on the same day. A talk on ‘Permanent magnets: Current and future perspectives was arranged in connection with the association inauguration. Dr Senoy Thomas, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology delivered the talk.
On 2nd October 2020, a programme named ‘Mahathma ke Saath’ was organised by the department. Photo quiz competition, Haiku competition and Caricature competition were arranged as part of the same. The competitions were arranged in the online mode.

The physics association of Vimala College was inaugurated on 19th July 2019 at 10:30 am in the Lisseux Seminar Hall. The chief guest was Dr. K R Dayas, Former Director, C-MET, Thrissur and Special Officer, Vijnan Sagar Science and Technology Park, Ramavarmapuram. The resource person made an excellent deliberation on the topic ‘Sensors’.

The fresher’s day was conducted on 12th July 2019 at 10.30 am in silver jubilee seminar hall. Dr. K A Malini, Head of the Department, lead the function by lighting the candles. The teachers welcomed the fresher’s to the department handing over lighted candles to them. This was followed by an ice breaking session. Various cultural activities were performed by second year and third year students.
As a part of the successful launch of Chandrayan 2 on 22nd July 2019, Vimala Astronomy Club (VAC) celebrated the grant victory on 30th July 2019 at 11:30 am in the college auditorium. The programme was officially inaugurated by Dr Malini K A, Head, Department of physics. A ppt was presented by Niya Baby of second year B.Sc. Physics. There was also a video presentation based on this event. Dr Anu Rose shared her experience at VSSC Space Laboratory with the students.

Dr. Govindankutty addressed the degree and PG students separately on the same day. His suggestions and talk was very valuable and inspiring for all the students as well as the faculty members.

The newsletter of the Dept. of Physics “The assayer” was released by Dr. Sr. Beena T.L and Dr. O. J Joycee, Vice Principal, Vimala College (Autonomous), Thrissur on 27/07/2018.
The department introduced a startup initiative named ‘Astrophile’ this year. The programme was arranged to improve creative and technical skill among students and to initiate activities through industry academia interface. Students participated actively in Star making, lambshade making and X-mas tree making.
On 25/1/2019 a visit to CUSAT was arranged for students of Final year B.Sc and Fouth Semester M.Sc. students as part of the open house. Dr Malini K A and Dr Veena Gopalan E accompanied the students
Final year students of physics department interacted with Dr.Notanto Margrette Hadebe, University of South Africa in the seminar jointly organised by Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics, Vimala College. Dr.Notanto inspired the students to celebrate womanhood. She also elaborated the three conflicting roles played by woman in her daily life, as a mother, wife and professional.
A talk on photoelectric effect was conducted on November 10 ,2017 as a part of the science promotion week November 7 -14 ,2017. The resource person was Dr.Jayakumar from IIT Palakkad His topic was Photoelectric effect. He also talked abouthis research in the area of perovskite materials Students from both Chemistry and Physics attended the programme.
Two seminars were conducted by the Department of Physics and Chemistryon the topic Science and Religion. The resource Person was.. Rev.Fr. Raphael Neelamkavil . He discussed the origin of Universe and therelation between science, Philosophy of life and religion.
Intercollegiate seminar organized by Department of physics on the topic “The theory of Angular momentum” is conducted on March 23 rd,2018 at Silver jubilee seminar Hall, Vimala College from 10am-3.30pm. Dr.Gishamol Mathew, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Physics, Maharajas College was the resource person, who is a brilliant academician. The seminar was extremely helpful for the students. 61 students and 2 teachers from various colleges are benefitted from the seminar. Students could get opportunity to interact with Dr. Gishamol and could clarify their doubts.
Video and power point presentations on space expeditions of India was conducted by the students on October 5th,2017 as a part of celebrating space week from October 4th –October 10th 2017.
The students of Physics assosciation visitedVigyanSagar on November 3 , 2017 and interacted with the eminent personalities there .C-lab electronic lab tool was introduced to them and many experimental set ups were demonstrated to them
A newsletter was published from the department of Physics picturing the department contour for period of June 2017-October 2017 .The newsletter was published by Prof. V. KPapputty. It was the combined effort of students and faculty of the Department.The staff editor is Dr.Aneesh Georgeand student editor, Ms. P Athira Unni (Second Year B.sc. Physics) .The news letterpresented a picture of the different programmes ,achievementsand news of the department.It also provideda column for topic of scientific interest” Saraswathi- latest scientific Discovery ”.

After the prayer song, Dr K A Malini welcomed the gathering. Prof Dr Devadasan talked on the Facts and fascinations of Physics in his Inagural speech. Kumari Jesnin Joseph delivered the vote of thanks. Prof Dr Devadhasan addressed the second year and final year students separately on the same day. His suggestions and talk was very valuable and inspiring for all the students as well as the faculty members.
Department of Physics conducted a program in memory of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the Missile Man of India on 28/7/2016 at the auditorium. Principal DrSr Maries V L, HOD Dr K A Malini and student representative Neelima talked to pay tribute to Dr AP J.
